With the new year starting, I was curious to know how do you guys stay organized. Just curious if anyone has a robust system, I think it could be a good thread to learn from the best and share your system.
- Start a new project (files creation, hierarchy, plan how you are going to tackle it, find references etc.)
- Keep track of how many hours you spent on a project
- Keep your bookmarks organized
- Follow naming convention
- Backup important files
- Building a library
I'm no expert and I hope this thread will give me some neat trick but this is what I do.
Start a new project: I really don't have think I have the best system for this one but this is what I do. Create a new folder in my secondary drive in the folder *project* with the name of my project. I create the following subfolder:
- Models( this is where I keep my Maya files)
- FBX
- References
- Textures (although I think I shouldn't keep that by project)
- Materials
- Progress (screenshot with the date of the progress I've made, again I should probably keep that in different files)
- Troubleshoot (screenshot of problem I ran into to post on forums to get help)
Then in Maya I set a new project to the directory I just created so I don't always have to browse to find the stuff I need
Keeping track of the time spent on a project
I use the app Toggl (It's free)
My bookmarks are a complete mess
Naming convention
I follow the one on Epic Game website:
https://wiki.unrealengine.com/Assets_Naming_ConventionBackup
I use dropbox pro
Anyways, just curious to know what do you guys use to stay organized
