Sketchbook Pro versus Photoshop

Okay, so I just got a wacom intuos pro tablet. I'm debating over the $2.99 per month w/ Sketchbook Pro or $9.99 per month via Photoshop. At University I've taken some traditional drawing and oil painting courses, and would like to transfer into the realm of digital painting. I'm mostly interested in doing illustrative works and concept art. Also, I am learning Autodesk Maya and was wondering if Sketchbook would be okay for painting UV maps. I know PS is usually ideal for that sort of thing. Just wondering if anyone actually uses Sketchbook for that.

I'm really liking the simplicity of Sketchbook and the brushes. However, I know PS is more widely used. Sketchbook is impressive though.

i recall sketchbook as having a really nice natural feel to drawing, probably not easy to beat - certainly leagues beyond photoshop in that regard.

if you are looking for alternatives however then you could always check out the freeware krita on the drawing front (the stabilizer is pretty neat, as is the tiling functionality for textures) and as a photoshop replacement i'd recommend looking into affinity photo, not sure they do a trial yet though. but it's a worthwhile contender at any rate and a good deal faster in my experience.
you can paint textures in anything really but at least i find photo editing, layer styles, adjustments, masking and filtering capabilities are usually more necessary for that than superior paintbrush handling.
