Hey Guys!
this is my first post here and I would love to hear some critique of all of you.
I am currently a junior allrounder 3D artist and I dream of becoming a character artist.
I created this one in my free time and I thought it would be helpfull to gather some opinions and tips on the overall design before I start with the topology.
I plan to handpaint her in 3D coat. I will probably not bake a normal map and paint all of the details, even though I sculpted more than I originally planned to (similar to the tutorial of marc brunet of this character here:
https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Lal8P )
What is still missing on the character is a mask, which will probably be attached to a belt on her side or something like that, I will only put it on for some posing when its done (similar to this piece here, just with blue instead of red:
http://thumbs1.ebaystatic.com/d/l225/m/mYkJ9yY9vNRhTcEIKnqjmXw.jpg ) and when she is completely done I want to create a pet fox/ spiritual animal companion (sth. like that) to go with her. Painted details on her sword, knife and chest are also planned to pick up the fox theme with a japanese-like artstyle (The knife probably looks more like a stick in the sculpt, but it's a japanese tanto attached to her back.)
I roughly overpainted the sculpt to show you how I planned on arranging the basic colors.
I really want to improve so please don't go easy on me with your critique.
Thanks a lot!

First bit of feedback: Until you get really good, always work from a concept. If your not great at drawing, find a great concept to work from. If you have one that's great. Please share it. If not, explain your current style goal. You will get very different feedback based on what style you are aiming for.
mh I made some thumbnails for the overall shape, but you could not call that a precise concept I guess.
Since I watched the mentioned tutorial of Marc Brunet on this character here https://www.artstation.com/artwork/Lal8P , my goal was to create a character with a similar degree of abstraction and handpainted textures, but with an own design (means not with this futuristic kind of clothing etc).
What I really like about this character of Marc Brunet are the strong shapes and the distinct silhouette and I hoped to be able to create something similar to this. I wanted the design to be recognizable from the distance, but clearly and not to fuzzy for the eye (which is why I am not sure if there are too many stripes hanging down). Later I wanted to create some dynamic posings and animate her, that´s why she has quite a lot of long features that can be bend to support the animation.
I hope my explanations can replace the missing concept, next time I will definitely pay more attention to this issue beforehand and pick an existing concept of some great artist
