What kind of texture map is this? I want to know if it's a normal map or something like that.

Hard to tell, based on the information provided. Could be a specular map, gloss map, curvature map, diffuse map, etc.

I can't quite tell, but it doesn't look entirely greyscale-- if indeed it isn't entirely greyscale, that would narrow it down to specular or diffuse, I would think.
