next step: sculpting the details and texturing the albedo in mari with ptex, making the low, baking the NM, and transfering the maps onto the low. let's see if it works as supposed
@AlecMoody i tried the baker, wow this is a fast one O.O it's a little bit annoying, when you try to find the right ray-offset on the first page, to always switch to the third one to press the bake-button. it would be better to have a fixed positioned bake-button. is there a possibility for an object-id pass? maybe this one makes no sense, because of the material-id.. time will tell. what i like is, that i just have to replace the low and high models in my folder and press the bake button nice work!
i get this crash every time i try to load something into handplane. every other button works fine. so at the moment i can't use handplane any more have restarted the workstation already.
there are no low models, did just a little test, to see how it works. closed it. after a while i wanted to do a second test and then suddenly it began to crash.
open handplane click on load project > crash open handplane click on highpoly model > crash
has something to do with the explorer and handplane.. and a global windows prolem maybe.. i'm working on win7
Yeah, email me the crash dump. To clarify, the tool no longer works for you at all? Do you have to load the project file in order to trigger the bug? If so, please send over the hpb as well.
email sent. yes, it stopped working for me, i can open it, but when i try to load something it crashes. i think it crashes, when it has to open the explorer ... time for bed and maybe tomorrow it will work again
I'm not able to reproduce this. Let me know if these steps are correct. I am loading your hpb file, then adding and removing models from the projection group:
Also, a few notes from looking at your HPB file. Assuming a ray offeset of 0.01 is close to correct, it would appear your model is really really small. How many units across is the plane? You are likely to run into precision issues in the baker if the model is actually that small. We are planning to add either a global scale factor or perhaps increase precision to handle those situations. Also, I saw on your output tab you were baking to 256 resolution. There isn't really a need to bake this small, a 1024 ought to take nearly the same amount of time and provide more useful test bake info.
i can't even load anything into handplane, because it crashes before that, although i can open it. i think it's a windows problem, at least it worked the first time
i have to look how big my object is, always forgetting about that i was baking a screw and looking how it bakes, that's why i tested all sizes including 256 and yes 4k is as fast as the 256, just a little bit slower.
lol ... i renamed the handplane.exe to handplane1.exe and it stopped chrashing .. worked with it .. closed it opened it again and it started crashing again ... renamed it to handplane2.exe .. and it startet working again .. it tells me not to close it again
neverless a little progress. maya viewport. i baked unity normal maps, they look right.
I will look into why bitdefender doesn't like handplane on your machine. Up until a few weeks ago, I was running bitdefender on my workstation and I never had issues.
thank you, it's a little bit odd. i have to deactivate bitdefender to use handplane, just putting the *.exe into exclusion in bitdefender doesn't help.
in the projectionsgroup it would be nice if it was possible to edit the high-poly/low-poly model paths by text, at the moment you have to delete a path and then add it again, or at least change a path again.
here is some progress, in the end it's all about materials :
@Takai thanks, i'll rest it for some time now and then back again
@AlecMoody i sent you a zipped folder with all files. inside handplane i first tried the maya2013/14 settings but the unity settings gave me the better result. only this screw didn't work as supposed.
