Having trouble getting a copy of CrazyBump

Hey kids,

I've been trying to get a license for Crazybump for about a month or so. All transactions through the site always fail or get canceled and the email provided on the site has yielded 0 responses to my three or so emails. I need it to make super easy height maps for texture / vertex painting.

Is there any other place I can buy a license from? Is it possible to buy a license from someone that bought extra?

Didn't even know this thing was still around, is it even in development anymore? I'd try Bitmap2Material if I were you. Haven't used crazybump in ages but iirc B2M functions very similarly.

Thank you for the suggestion. One thing I actually like about CrazyBump is it is old enough that it doesn't have tons of extra features for PBR. I'm doing hand-painted work and it seems a lot of today's tools are all focused on PBR and realistic materials. It is easy to throw in a bitmap painting into Crazybump, fiddle with it a bit, and save out a Heightmap in less than 5 minutes or so.

Can Bitmap2Material do the same?

Haven't really used it to be honest, I'm mostly basing this off of my super vague memory of CrazyBump and videos of B2M on Allegorithmic's youtube channel so you're probably better served just watching them and judging yourself.

Another option would be Quixel's legacy tools, as I recall their conversion tools were mostly there to derive normal maps but it could also generate a heightmaps. May not suit your needs but seeing as the legacy tools are free now it might be worth trying out.

If he's after fast and simple, Quixel is definitely not something I'd recommend. It has a mountain of variables, and takes forever to bake compared to other options.
B2M is likely the best bet.

I use Bitmap2Material to get that stuff out of paintings. It is a bit more complex but it has many nice settings and you can save presets if you have a working setup.

I use B2M now but a few years ago I used Shader Map - http://shadermap.com/ - it's super simple  - alot like Crazy Bump.

There is also MindTex 2, pretty much a direct Cbump clone. Available directly from steam so its easy to get a hold off.
