For anyone who would be interested in this topic, I have recently uploaded my first speed modeling video to my youtube channel. I used Pixie3D for modeling.
I am currently developing my own 3D Animation Software and hopefully it will be ready for release early 2017. In that context I have been trying to come up with a new layout for my website (as this is highly needed). At current state it is just a mock-up so I was wondering if you guys could help me by spending a moment to have a look at it and let me know your thoughts.
Does the design appeal to 3D artists? Does the layout look nice, simple, overwhelming, confusing? Is there obvious features I have been missing that an artist would look for when looking at new software to play with? Are you left with questions and confusion after you have have visited the site or do I manage to excite/intrigue you? etc.
Any feedback would be highly appreciated.

Thanks, I will take that as a compliment then Yes, I would like to release it for beta testing early this year. Ideally early spring. If you guys would like an early test drive then let me know and I can arrange something for you.
As a dedicated, long-term Max user, it is indeed a compliment. I'd love to take it for a test drive. In fact it's quite exciting, a brand new, modern modeling application in its infancy. The possibilities are endless.....
I am pleased to hear that you are looking at it in that way Please go to my website www.pixie3d.com (or see link above) and send me a message by using the contact form. Remember to enter your email address, so I can reply to you! Then I will provide you with a link, so you can download it and test it for yourself. I should have a version ready for beta-testing at the end of this week. I hope you will enjoy using it as much as I have enjoyed making it Others are also welcome to contact me.
For anyone who would be interested in trying out a new upcoming 3D software for yourself. Go to www.pixie3d.com and download Pixie3D for FREE. Pixie3D is a software I have written in my spare time. I hope the software will help indie game developers, 3D artists and 3D enthusiasts to create assets for their projects. The beta version allows you to create and export polygon models for games engines like Unity3D 5 and Unreal Engine 4. If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me and I will try to answer them as quickly as possible.
This update fixes a whole bunch of polygon modelling and internal issues. You can read more about the specific fixes at my website under the section: Release Notes.
If you have already downloaded Pixie3D you can get the new update by using the built-in update system or feel free to download Pixie3D at http://www.pixie3d.com
I would like to let you all know that a new download is available for Pixie3D. In case you do not know what Pixie3D is, it is a 3D Animation & Modelling software I write in my spare time. You can download it for free at my website: https://www.pixie3d.com/
I hope you will enjoy the new updated version and please feel free to give me any feedback.
For anyone interested in Pixie3D, a new update has been released. The new update includes improved polygon modelling tools and paths for modelling and animation as well as a robust key frame animation system.
Imo it repeats the very same mistakes 3d max does in regards of how users are supposed to interact with the soft. I mean buttons and check-boxes. More complex it became more of a mess it would be.
I would expect form a new soft to be rather a collection of best ideas than just a simple clone. Imo modern soft should be pro-active and self -learning to a certain extent. It should suggest , not wait till you found a necessary checkbox. Its user interface should be extremely contextual showing you only what's matter in a current work flow you are following. Suggesting you all possible directions of extrude for example, switchable instantly by a mouse wheel maybe or Blender style and not waiting you trying to recollect where that damn checkbox or drop down you used last time is , fixing UVs in the process and indicating if it's going messy and so on. Remembering you choice and guessing it next time. Suggesting construction/work planes , transform pivot positions and so on pro-actively.
Such small things are actually scattered sparsely in many different programs. Someone just need to collect them.
To put it simply a software should help you , not puzzle you like all the current pro ones mostly do.
Thank you very much for passing on your thoughts, I do agree with you and I will take your input into consideration for the next updates. So far I have been focused heavily on implementing features but I think it is time to also consider better UI design, so thanks again for pointing this out.
@pixie3d I agree with @gnoop A streamlined UI driven by hotkeys/pie menus is the way to go. All of the main DCCs have so many redundant tools, located in 2 or 3 places.
I have to wonder why as a lone dev you are going the full DCC route? Animation and rendering? It seems like a huge endevour. Have you thought about cornering a niche market? I would love to see a 'game asset modeling' program, aimed squarely at the games industry. A package that specialised in only that. All the basic modeling tools plus a vertex normal toolkit, a modern map baker, a modern PBR viewport environment. A robust grid-snapping system and auto geo-tiler for environment work. A live link to UE4/Unity/Substance. Maybe a special toolkit with preset libraries for creating tiling trim meshes/texture sheets. A boolean-type modeling system like Hardops/Boxcutter for Blender. You could maybe even add extra modules down the line for game rigging/animation/seamless integration with UE4 retargetting. The possibilities are endless.... In fact, I'm surprised nobody has ever attempted this.
There is so much you could do if you specialised. Just a thought. Glad to see you're still working on this. Best of luck with it.
Thank you for asking. At the moment Pixie3D serves me as a R&D project. Most of my clients are hiring me to develop 3D related software so Pixie3D is a perfect project for me to learn new techniques and improve my skills as a software developer as well as incourage myself to understand all the math needed. It would be great to turn Pixie3D into a niche market and the things you are bringing up sounds very interesting. I do not make any money of developing Pixie3D but maybe someday it will be good enough to be a profitable product, so who knows. However, I am certainly planning on more modelling features as well as grid snapping features. It is interesting you are bringing up a geo-tiler, because a few weeks ago I came up with an idea how to generate a brick walls with just a few parameters. Actually, Pixie3D already supports PBR and texturing features like unwrapper etc. is also something I am planning on improving. At the moment I am trying to complete an animation which will be a proof of concept and a personal victory of mine. A friend of mine has just handed over a drawn storyboard, so the next months will be focused on completing this project.

What are your plans with Pixie 3D? Do you have a beta version? Can I test it?
Keep up the good work!
