Think I might be done what I wanted to do with him. Any feedback appreciated. Don't do a lot of 2D work like this but hoping to do more.

Dude your values and brush strokes are really good! I like the gradient, but maybe it's a bit too much. His left arm/hand also looks much longer than the right.

I agree with Enalya about the arm length.
Something about the scale of the first sketch worked better for me as far as making him look imposant, maybe the size of the head.
