How do you guys go about unwrapping for textures? With out having the texture distortion.
Depends on the distance and required fidelity. If it's a mid to background prop I create one seam and relax (one island), if it's going to be seen up close I either map it like a cylinder (three islands) or like a tennis ball (two islands). And if I am really lazy I create a triplanar world aligned shader and slap it onto the sphere (no uvs required)
