Creating blood for weapons

Hey All, 

So i'm trying to add blood to my weapon here without looking to cheesy, I had tried looking for tutorial videos, and documents but could not find any that would fit my needs....

Is there a tutorial video/ or document that can help me make a good blood texture?

In my experience the most solid way is just creating your own material layer in SP and make smart use of particle or splatter brushes, i.e.: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=e3FpG3CFlfQ
