Hey guys, here is an African-American female portrait that I have been working on for a while. Trying to improve my skin texturing and also little cloth sculpting. Done in zbrush, texture xyz for the details and rendered in the awesome Marmoset 3. Would love to hear what you guys think about it. Images
It's nice, good jobs, the only thing, if I really have to be careful, the pattern of the hat i don't like it too much. But the work it's really nice !!
The face looks great to me, but you lost the depth to the cloth in those textures. Folds that are sculpted barely show up and probably the pattern doesn't help either. But really nice work with the face
Do African americans wear such hats, did she just take a shower, good job though.
It's an African headwrap. Yes, some African-Americans do wear them. No, it's not a towel.
About the headwrap, I'd say that its material looks a bit too image-texture-y. Vague, I know.
But all I can say that it feels like an image texture, rather than nailing the material definition. Doesn't quite do the cloth sculpt justice. Not sure how to suggest a fix.
The face looks great. Eyes could use some work. I agree about the crits about the head wrap as well. you have the pattern actually crossing over where the wrap separates which was kinda lazy IMO. You should have at least offset the pattern so it looks like there is a proper break in the material. The pattern also overpowers the wrap detail as well...probably would have been better to just do a solid colors and let the normals do the work. Still, very nice piece!
Thanks a lot for the feedback guys. Yeah I agree the cloth texture kind of killed most of the folds. I run into this problem very often. I guess gonna have to figure this out. Gonna see if I can fix this. @slosh - I just went over my model after reading your feedback and I found the area you mentioned- must have missed this one. Thanks for pointing it out. Will get back and adjust that. I did try to uv this in a way that i can have all the separate layers of the head wrap face the same direction, but I must have missed that this part on the front was picking up a little more from the opposite side.
Thanks again for taking time to leave feedback guys.
