hiya, time for a new personal project, this time I'm basing myself on an existing concept, namely this one by Tekka-Croe:
http://tekka-croe.deviantart.com/art/Ice-Planet-2002-182670740 I'm just out of blockout phase so I figured I'd post it to check if there's some glaring errors before I actually start detailing. Gave the poor guy a backpack because, hey, the original figures had one so I figured why not.
Planning to bring this one to game res as usual, with poly planes eventually replacing the fur volumes.
That's it for now, I'll get you back when I actually get some progress done. Stay tuned!

tl;dc version: retopoed the helmet, made the arm armor into actual plates instead of a single dynamesh and added proper gloves, gave him some standard zbrush materials to keep track on what's done. Not much detailing done, planning to go heavy on it after retopo.
oh, and nothing important, I gave him an actual face instead of a SOULLESS MASK He's supposed to be modeled after this guy, hence the middle aged mustachioed man look:

And here's my version:
So yeah see you in 2019 when I actually finish this
later
still need to tweak topology a bit to avoid those artifacts but ye
see you into next year
Next up is redoing his eyebrows/moustache combo and then TEXTURING TIME
BTW, didn't mean to bump twice in a night but I managed to style his facial hair into something acceptable without losing any sleep over it so why the heck not. There are a few holes but I should be able to fix that:
now we get into the hardest but most fun part.
I'll keep you posted
Base materials are done, time to get into actual detailing
Playing with lighting as well
Maybe the antennae could be metallic or at least the base of it. The skis could have a frame of metal or carbon around the edges.
Either way I look forward to seeing where you take this. Keep it up!
Those parts are still unfinished, I'm planning to put a metal rod and some wiring inside the antenna to connect it to the helmet (there's still plenty of space on the helmet UV for that but I need a good idea for that).
The skis you see in the picture are still hipoly and mostly placeholder, don't know if I will add any kind of detail on them since I still have to decide whether the translucent orange pieces are an actual physical material or some kind of weird "materialized light" thing that can be turned on and off at will (which would make more sense since the visor cannot actually be opened this way, it looked cool in the concept but when I started working on it in 3D I noticed it wouldn't turn due to the plate over the head).
Then again I did expand on the concept a bit so I might find some other way to do that.
going back on the char now, later
bonus points if it's a girl and she's wearing sorta realistic armor aka no muthaf*k!ng heels
