So I have been experimenting with Blender for texture painting workflow. Just noticed that when I right click to sample color, the color selected is a darker color. This happens when I try to paint in vertex mode. Texture mode painting samples color fine. Is this a bug or is there something I am doing wrong? I am using Blender 2.78 released on 26/09/2016.

I am looking at a workflow where I can handpaint with vertex color at very high res density and then bake to texture for a low or lesser poly mesh. The advantage is you can bake at 16 or 32k textures. I am not sure Blender can handle this? ZBrush seems to be the only app that can allow fluid vertex painting of very dense mesh and bake to 16 or 32k textures? Another advantage is the vertex textures go with the mesh file so u can always revisit the file to re-paint stuff without having the file textures in a different folder.
Is there a way to optimise vertex painting to avoid lag in Blender? I do have 3dsmax open while vertex painting in Blender.
