Furniture modelling (Low poly) ?

Hi guys and girls !

I have a problem with... low poly works.

This type modelling is wrong for low-polygon ? with MAYA

I want to make cartoony looking environments but ı don't understand something or...

Why can't make soft edge for low poly or black sections isn't problem or  ı don't understand how to make low poly ?

We using hard surface ? 

Yes ım almost never make low poly works in maya.

You can mix hard and soft edges. You can select edges and go to Mesh Display > Harden or Soften edges. You can also automatically smoothen by angle, by going to Mesh Display > Set Normal Angle, I would try about 20 degrees for your mesh.
