Detroit area based Pixo Group is looking for a Technical Artist to act as a bridge between our artists and engineers. With a unique combination of artistic and technical expertise, the Technical Artist is the bridge between our artists and engineers. You must be a proactive problem solver who demonstrates creativity and a respect for aesthetics. The ideal candidate understands the constraints and issues present in real-time rendering environments, mobile hardware, and the web – and can successfully develop workflows to compensate for such limitations. You'll work in tandem with the Creative and Engineering teams to ensure that production runs smoothly. This is a contract position and on-site is preferred, although remote will be considered.
Responsibilities:
Define 3D asset creation policies
Create tools and workflows that efficiently bridge the gap between 3D artists and Engineering
Identify opportunities for automation to increase productivity while preserving a high visual quality
Train artists and engineering on new tools and procedures related to the 3D pipeline
Manage contracted technical vendors
Maintain and find ways to elevate the visual quality of 3D assets
Collaborate with Creative and Engineering leads to continually audit and improve the 3D pipeline
Requirements:
5+ years’ experience as a technical artist developing solutions for a real-time rendering environment.
Expert Knowledge of Maya and the Unity Game engine
Adept at 3D asset creation – (Modeling, Rigging, Texturing, Lighting, Animation, Scripting and Tools)
Familiarity with CG-oriented programming languages, image manipulation and compression techniques, mobile hardware, advanced PBR shading techniques, kinematic animation, command line systems, and real-time lighting are all highly advantageous.
A portfolio and work examples showing creative solutions to technical problems is mandatory
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Experience collaborating within a multi-person studio
Nice to haves:
Experience with converting CAD assets to real-time ready 3D assets – or similar experience
Character Animation Experience
Education and/or Experience
Bachelor's Degree (B.S.) in design, games-related or technical field, or an equivalent amount of applied experience in the industry.
