With lava world being almost done (still needs a little more work), I've went ahead and started working on a new map. Still very WIP but feedback is appreciated.
What type of software are you using to build this terrain? World Machine? Sculpt height map in ZBrush and import into UE4 Terrain editor? Other software/methods? It looks great. Have you been looking at Tatooine and Sullust from Star Wars Battlefront for inspiration? If so, you've nailed that look.

I use satellite data. Alex Alvarez has some useful DVDs on that as well. I use Battlefront as my main reference these days and trying to push for that quality. Thanks!
Some of the areas on landscape 05 needed manual touch. The surface just couldn't look right without hand painting so I'm doing that. Here's a before and after comparison.
chertilla, I'm not sure what you mean exactly. Where do I do what?
Got an update. I've been working on reducing the seam between meshes and terrain. This of course has nothing to it other than matching the colors. ^^ 4K shots, view in high res.

Sadly, the particles don't really show in a screenshot. Will do a video on them later.
