We are currently looking for a freelance 3d animator to work with us for a short term paid contract from late October to mid December.

We are happy for you to come into the office or work online - both local and international animators welcome.

Role

  • Creating a series of still poses and animations for 4 human .fbx characters, working off supplied storyboards and design briefs.

  • Due to the cinematic presentation of the game, our animation is much more biased towards narrative and character communication, and less towards technical aspects such as user feedback, state machines, etc.

  • You will be working alongside our lead artist to translate our character designs into motion

  • You will also be working alongside our lead designer to ensure that the animations fit within the narrative and emotional constraints of the storyboard

  • As the work utilizes mostly stills, expressive and striking static poses are a must

  • NO facial animations - just the body

  • Character rigging negotiable based on animator preference and timeline.

Selection Criteria

  • Aside from technical skills, strong creative ability to express stylistic and narrative intent

  • Prior professional experience required - please also provide a demo reel demonstrating your technical and creative abilities

  • Basic experience working in Unity 3d pipeline

  • Consistent and dependant ability to deliver - we will be working on a tight timeline with fast turnarounds

  • Strong 2d animation/storyboarding experience a plus

  • As we are working with an anime artstyle, understanding of the medium a plus!

So if you’re an animator that would be interested in making a cross between a short film, a game, and a comic, wrapped up in jazzy urban fantasy Melbourne, let us know - the team here at Route 59 would love to hear from you!
