Over the month of October I am running a "Materials Mentorship" program through Gumroad. The main goal of the mentorship is for the artist to create material(s) over the course of a month with tools currently used in AAA production pipelines. The materials will be created referencing real life sources, as well, the focus will be on material definition, overall readability balance, and presentation.
These artist will be posting their WIP images and discussing their process in this thread and I am really excited to see their progress take place over the coming weeks.

Wanted to introduce myself and give an overview of the material I choose for this mentor ship.
Fist off I would like to thank Josh for taking time to run these mentor ships. I learned a lot working with Josh and highly recommend it for anyone looking to get a deeper understanding of Designer.
I have been using Substance Painter and Designer for some time, started using them for personal work, and also in the industry for the last couple of years.
I started learning designer seriously about a year ago, both for creating materials and tools/filters for painter.
My goal for the mentor ship is to refine my workflow and learn some techniques for having "order" and "chaos" patterns in the same material.
I chose this reference image less to learn about creating a cobble road but more to learn how to have a mix of orderly placed stone with ones of random shape and position. I feel that this image is a nice mix of both.
Here is my current progress
There is still work to be done but I feel its coming along nicely.
Over the next few posts I'll breakdown some of the techniques I learned from Josh with respect to pattern creation, surfacing, and detailing.
Also I will post updates until the material is finish. I have to finish surfacing the stones, roughness and albedo, so there is still lots to do.
Any crits and comments are welcomed.
Cheers
