Been a while lads, more stuff! Wanted to see how I perform in bit of cinematic lighting on a field, didn't go too well but still wanted to share Any feedback would be massively welcomed...
How long has it been, like 2 months since I uploaded anything here?
A lot happened since I last uploaded, I started working as a freelance, met lots of art directors who were interested in my works and finally got my first gig as a concept artist albeit more on the indie side, good enough to pay for everything
I realized I haven't updated much since my "career" and school life took off, so I thought I might share some improvements and works with you guys. Hope you enjoy!
Still some anatomy issues that are similar to the first few pages. That said, there is a ton of imagination in all your work which is so important. Really cool to see all the different variety of ideas.
@ChrisFraser Thanks for your kind comment Definitely, I am keeeep gridning on my anatomy til it looks good. Still quite dodgy
AAAaaand holy shit, I made it on t H E f r O n T p A G e???? Didn't even dream of it ever since I started this post like 2 years ago. I wouldnt have made it if it wasnt for you guys keep dropping by and checking out my stuff, thank you all so so much.
I've been crazy busy with freelance and learning 3D animation in school, but here's something I managed to grab in my free time. I'm trying to push the photobashing workflow in rough state and polish it within my painting style.
Hey, it is super cool to see your improvement over the past couple of years! Seeing how your skills evolved is so inspirational to me. Also I really love the strong shape design in your latest piece! Keep up the great work
Woah, those clouds of fiery smoke in the first one are mindblowing. The mix of the cool and warm tones works very well I think. I love the grand scale of it too. Feels like a Dark Souls boss
@alinabeska THank you for your kind words trying to get better always hehe.
It's been a while people of polycount! Been a wild ride learning 3D stuff, but came back to drop some 2D wips Ive been working on.. (Middle one is a fan art)
Hey Doodlok!! I hope all is well with you. I just started reading your thread a couple of days ago and read everything on here. You have improved a lot through the yrs! Keep it going!
I too on this 2D journey! Since I'm at the age of 33, the thoughts of me being too old to start learning a new skills has attacked me often but rebuking those thoughts is necessary to not fall into depression. Also, there is a reason why I pursue 2D art, 1. to be a better 3D artist, and 2. to create a Christian Comic book with my wife and 3. not be on this software chase as an artist.
Continue to strengthen your fundamentals. I'm subscribing to Watts Atelier and enjoying it so far and they have a feedback tier which I'll do eventually.
Keep posting! Keeping putting work up whether you think it's bad. Continue to learn and you'll improve! Hope to see more of your stuff soon.
Hey Doodlok, really awesome thread! It's nice to see all of the improvement you've made, congrats to you for all your hard work. Keep going, I know you can raise the bar even higher!
@bed Thank you so much! Absolutely love your works too, I'll see how far I can push it
And hello team! Super busy with freelance, I really hope one day I can share them with NDA being over, but managed to cram some personal piece in between
Hey that's really nice, love the palette. Though I'm a bit confused with his left arm. Is it raised at the elbow? Or is that an awkwardly placed bkg element?
Also a bit difficult to read his legs and footing. His odd proportions are hard to read. Does he have a tiny head and giant legs?
Would love to see the sky be a narrative element. Is the wind blowing? Storm brewing? Sun setting? All could help amp it up.
@Eric Chadwick Thank you so much for your comments! I should have made it clearer in the painting, the guy is a statue in construction, his legs are not there because it's currently being carved out of rocks.
And absolutely agree on the sky, I'll try to figure out how to add some more interesting narrative elements. Thanks for dropping by
I've been reading through the feedbacks, going back to fundamentals and basically overhauling my workflow especially I acquired Octane recently.
Wasn't able to work it out so I grinded, and I think I have somewhat of a satisfying work for the first time in a long time.
I always wanted to do a series themed around rogue mechs that live in
the wild and exhibit animal-like behavior, but was never confident
enough in my skill to pull it off. So I gave it another go.
This
specific one very much inspired by hermit crab, something along the
lines of the robot going around collecting building debris as a
protective shell for its exposed parts.
Kitbashed in maya, rendered in octane and painted over in photoshop
Hey Team! Since I wanted to do something fantasy-ish, I decided to crack at Korean rendition of grim reaper.
In Korean mythology, Reapers are sort of like civil service agents who
go around as a group with bunch of paperwork and manually collect the
souls / lead the way for the death. They all 'work' for Lord of the
Afterlife, and each of them has a unique jurisdiction of their own.
They are portrayed as quite humane figures, as they make mistakes or accept bribery sometimes and extend the lifespan of some people.
