Zbrush how to shorten a curve?

Hey,
I'm really confused on how to shorten a curve in ZBrush when I alt-drag a new curve over me curve it most of the times it won't cut it. Only sometimes am i doing it wrong? probably haha could anyone tell me how to do it properly?
