Hi everyone,

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

I am trying to bake AO from a simple object with alpha so there is just the shadows - nothing else. Tried a few things mainly using matte materials and the vray matte shadow map but not getting what I want. It doesnt even have to be vray as this isnt high end stuff. I just need to extract the AO from the model onto its own layer with no background. This is for an app where the user draws onto the model and the AO will be present as a layer on top of the diffuse which they create.

Thanks!

M

You can render your AO without alpha, then:
    Option A:
    - Go to Photoshop, copy one of the color channels (they should all be the same anyway)
    - Create a solid color layer with the copied AO as alpha

    Option B:
    - Use your AO without the Alpha, just multiply it over your Albedo map

    EDIT:

Oh i see i think i understood wrong.
You can assign a self-illuminated material with a VrayDirt node in the diffuse slot.
Render that and your object has alpha and in RGB you have your AO.
