EDIT: So I haven't updated this in a while but these past few days, I finally got around to fixing a lot of the weird things in it. I'd love to get feedback and critiques if you have any, thanks. (=

Hi guys~! New to this forum. (: I thought I should post my WIPs in order to motivate myself.. I have trouble finishing personal projects sometimes.
I'm working on my portfolio and decided to do this concept by Tom Robinson.
I plan on sticking relatively close to the concept, so I'll be doing simple cartoony flat-ish shading on the textures.

Right picture is with consistent colors because I don't like how it looks with 3ds max's default lighting. I'll move everything into unreal and put proper lighting after I texture the rest. Hopefully it wouldn't look as shitty then. ><
CCs and advices are always appreciated~
I'm having a lot of trouble trying to get the reflection on the water right. ): Anyone have any tips?
The most recent one looks a lot more "girly" than the concept. Dont know if that was intentional.
I think the trees should be a bit more dense and deformed to get the shape of the drawing, especially the one near the door.
Looks like the trees had changed quite a bit in the latest picture, though i kinda agree with @Ruflse , the tree can be a bit more dense.
I found a really interesting post about dota2's stylized tree replication, might worth a look

Thank you!
Ruflse said: Thank for the advice. I'll deform the tree trunks a bit more. The trees in that tutorial look awesome I'm having a lot of trouble with the concept art's tree shape though. I can't figure out a way to give it a lot of volume but keep the willow-y shape with the big curves at the bottom.
Thanks! I'll add a lot more foliage
Thank you~ I think I'll make two version, one for the beauty shot and the bigger scene for a quick flyover clip.
just kidding , this looks sweet, my suggestion is to maybe try having the light at a different angle to get more shadows, that will increase the contrast of the pic by introducing shadows. Looks great over all, am a sucker for painted texture style.
I'd also love to see you tackle the tree canopy's in the style quockhanhlk linked/referenced to.
