I am currently working on a Smith & Wesson pistol. The modeling is done in Maya and Zbrush. The images below is quick Keyshot renders. My plan is to make a low poly and do some texturing in Substance Painter.
Your edges are really sharp. While machined edges are really sharp in real life and that looks great in the HP, it won't catch the light at all once baked down into the LP due to aliasing. Loosen up/smooth some of those edges and you'll have really good normals to work with when you finally bake it. Good work!
I will definitely go over those edges before the bake.
@Dan Powell The fishscale-like pattern is two basic shapes modeled quick and dirty in Maya, and duplicated to make the pattern. I also did some sculpting on the barrel itself and some clean up on the fishscale pattern in Zbrush.
Hi! I finally have made some progress on the gun. I am at the point where i have done some texturing. Here is a cople of renders done in Iray (substance painter)
The barrel and frame of the gun look top notch, really digging the fish-scale pattern. However, the wood for the handle looks like it stands out a bit much even for a gun that looks brand new. A bit too shiny and bright. My eyes seem to be drawn to it when I feel like I should be checking out the barrel instead.

Mind sharing how you modeled fishscale-like pattern on the barrel?
Thanks for the feedback, guys!
