Hey everyone!
I'm new to polycout, first time posting here :)

I'm currently doing the bronze edition of Dusty Notling's character course. I have the basics of my sculpt finished, just need to finish the hair and tidy up the face a little. Then I will retopo in 3D Coat and begin modeling the armor in Maya.

The goal is to have a hand painted sci fi bust, low poly in Sketchfab.

If you have any critiques for me I would REALLY appreciate it! Thanks.

Regarding the hair, if you want to keep it as volumes, separate major strands out into separate subtools.  You'll get a visually more clean, separated look with multiple subtools as opposed to the one mass you have now.

Keep pushing.  I'd make sure your  edges (like the eyelids) and "shapes" your forms make are as clean as possible.  Smoothing it out at a lower subdividion level tends to help with that.

Do you have a concept or sketch of what the rest of the bust is going to look like?

So far, looks good to me. Hair is a personal pain in the ass for me so i try to do as little work as possible when sculpting it. It looks like you're on the right track.

    Welcome to Polycount. =)

I can't say I'm experienced with sculpting human form in ZBrush, but I do think your Subdivision level is way too high at the moment; you've got over 15 million Polygons in that scene! =P

You don't need anywhere near that much geometry unless you're doing high resolution detail (such as sculpting the pores/crevices in the skin). I assume you won't be doing this though, as your style feels quite Pixar/Disney, wherein all the attractive characters have very smooth, clean skin (without any surface noise.)

Silhouette looks good to me (the side view is nice). Her cheeks feel a bit lumpy and I think you'll find these much easier to deal with on a lower SubD level.

Thanks so much for the replies everyone! It means a lot and I really value your feedback.

Seems like I need to stop working in such a high subdivision, z-remesh to get her looking smoother again, tidy up some shapes such as cheeks & eyelids and possibly redo/rework the hair.

I will post my progress pictures soon so stay tuned  :D
