So from what I read on your page, you render it out in the 3D software and combine them in engine for a 2D look. How did you handle the character turning / changing direction, I can't see it properly in the gifs of your kickstarter page. Basically, do you have a frame of the character turning in between the character looking left to right, for example, or do you "flip" the sequence in one frame?
@MiAlx Thank you! And yes you're right, we just flip the sequence in one frame (so when you see him turn in game, you'll notice his antenna stays in the back) His weapon is also so massive, that if we flipped him you'd barely see his body!
This week, you'll get to choose which of these poor whales you want to help - choose wisely! By the way... those are not asteroids... It's an excrement mining colony where something has gone horribly wrong!
In a bit of a money crunch at the moment, but once I'm more flush, and provided the Kickstarter is still going, I'll back for sure. Really admire you peeps leaving successful jobs and striking out on your own to make your dreams happen. Super inspirational!
YAH! I'm contributing to the DUMP! I made adorable dead surgeons. The game is crammed packed with 2d assets. Will share more! Help us save the space whales, friends!
@Nerf Bat Ninja We would mention Earth Worm Jim, but we felt that it could confuse people if they think we're going to be influenced by it's gameplay. But, that would definitely be worth mentioning at least in an update. I'll look into adding that somewhere, because it is a general influence ^_^
Note: We wanted to create a short, digestible (ha) prototype where you can tackle some baddies and feature some basic combat mechanics. This is a work in progress, does not represent the final game and is subject to change. Any and all feedback is welcome - good luck, doctor!
PS. This build has only had limited testing and optimizations but wanted to give everyone something to sink their teeth into, so expect some bugs!
so awesome, love the little dead scientist, they are really cute in a kind of morbid way :P I hope the kickstarter works out for you guys! also, download link dosnt work (on polycount), had to go to the kickstarter to download.
EDIT: I also have some feedback on the build, should I post it here or in a PM or something?
@MissMaddyTaylor - heey, there is an actual game when you get that door open! thanks, I tried pushing down n stuff, but not holding jump at the same time, it makes sense but not very intuitive
only crit right now is PC controls are horrible and its a shame the characters are so small. other then that Im surprised how polished this is, wasn't expecting start or even paus menus. its awesome!
Hey Lotet ! The "press down + jump" is used in some games that are not frustrating at all (super smash, Ori etc), and it never bothered me personally. If you have any suggestions on how to evolve a mechanic thats common i would love to here your ideas.
I agree the controls for PC are poop, the Prototype was mostly made for a controller right now. As for the character being so small, we will have shots of rudy being up close (beginning of prototype) and of course zoomed out so you can get a sense of scale of environment or anything for gameplay.

Thanks for taking the time to play ^_^
Ive played many games with that control scheme, its very old school. last few platforms Ive played had either just "hold down" or double tap down though, so I guess I just didnt think of it.
and as for size, It looks geat in the first part, but the level of detail gets a bit noisy when you zoom out to much, any thats minor nitpicks.
BRAWRR! I'm putting more arts up here! These are more of the 2D hand painted assets that went into the prototype! Help us Make Blubber Busters happen guys, and thanks for all the feedback and encouragement!
Yo! If anyone still follows us here, we're launching one final crowdfunder on December 3rd on Indiegogo! I'll post some updates here as we get closer to the launch

those are cutest guts and dead guys I've ever seen! ♥ o ♥
It is a nice mix of Earthworm Jim and Metal Slug/ Mega Man classics.
Good luck with the Kickstarter, guys! I'm sure it will be very successful!
@Tomiajayi - Yes, Joe is Avery's hero!
Enjoy
So im not sure if Im missing something but I cant get the first door to open in the demo.
