What operation system do you use when working?

Hello everyone,

Now i know this question may stir up a lot of discussions and debates, but we're 'adults' here so let's keep it nice and short!

What's your operation system of choice when doing your work? And is there a particular reason to this choice? Also, what is it you do?

That's it guys! That's all i'd like to know so i can get some clarity on the matter! Apologies in advance if this question stirs up your insides.

Windows 7.

I'd really like to switch to Linux but lack of support from major tools (namely ZBrush, Photoshop and UE4 in my case) is a major barrier.

Some VFX studios are at least partially Linux based, but for game art, not using Windows is going to cause a ton of compatibility issues.

Linux is fine. I prefer Debian stable but I upgraded to some really new hardware recently so I'm using Windows 7 until the next Debian release happens.

I like to be in the bleeding edge.

XP asset profiling / 16-bit toolchains
98SE asset profiling / VC6 debugging / DJGPP compiling
95 asset profiling / regression testing

Used to Linux, but realized slightly adjusting .confs to get things to a basic Windows level was sucking so much time (even on distros that promise Mac-like elegance). and the workflow's not the same when you're forced to use home folders and can't just easily C:\ your way to work.

and Asset profiling because I like to see if older Geforce/Radeon/Rage/Voodoo/PowerVR hardware can tolerate my handiwork XD  even if no one uses them anymore, it does keep me in line for those newer micro computers etc

for work - windows 7. it came with the computer, it does the job and unless something awesome comes along that absolutely requires an upgrade it looks like it'll stay until i replace that machine.
i use osx/mac os too but that's more for general computer use.

Win 7 SP2 with updates disabled since install(10 years ago? ) it's stable, does what I need it to, never crashes, and doesn't try to be a giant smartphone.

Windows 10. I've found that, as long as you stay on top of drivers/updates and don't mod your PC in weird ways, it's usually possible to use the latest version Windows without (much) disruption to your workflow.

Most severe disruption w10 makes for my workflow is that when I save /open files from dark Zbrush  or whatever  environment   it's  like a supernova explosion  in my brain.     They made  contrast themes   to keep backgrounds grey  impossible to use for that purpose .

Windows 10 at work, and I honestly despise it.  So many odd explorer crashes, operating system hang ups completely unrelated to my work, etc.  I use Windows 8.1 at home and have been enjoying it, though W7 has and will be my favorite for the foreseeable future.  It was just rock solid stable for me for the entire time I used it on my workstation(s).

Hmmm, it's the other way around for me. I used to have a lot of problems using win7 and with win10 it's smooth as butter.

CG work on windows, currently win10. Audio/video on macOS, currently mavericks. Generally don't update windows until as late as possible but got fed up being bothered by microsoft and figured it seemed stable.

Since you're doing audio/video on your mac, are you using mac exclusive programs? Or are you just more used to the OS? I haven't really had any reason to pick up on mac, but i feel like it would be something worth learning the basics of at some point.

Windows 10. Honestly never found myself with a reason to change operating system, plus it comes with the risk of incompatibility
