Hey there, I've been here a while mainly lurking but I do occasionally post to help or show work. I've been working on my portfolio as of late and been trying to really push the bar when it comes to area's I can be hired in and also just overall quality. I'm trying to get hired as a prop/weapons/hardsurface/env artist. (I should really specialise)
I do know my environmental stuff really needs work, but I should be working on that this year for the final year of my degree course.
jordanmoss.co.ukMy previous stuff was all quadclamp branding, but honestly I think it's just made my portfolio seem less personal and more just like a professional entity which I feel like people just shrug off more.
The past year and a half I've been sending out my CV to places but haven't really seen any light at the end of the education tunnel as of yet, I still have this final year to really push my work for industry but really need some direction. My problem at the moment is I'm in an area where my work is OK at best, meaning it doesn't see much criticism on forums. Which for me is kind of frustrating, because all I need is fresh eyes on my work in order to progress. That, and skill of course.
If anyone can shed some light on areas of improvement, or things I should do to help land me a job I would be eternally grateful.

I would also personally re-work how your website display's work to showing full images per page rather than the slow gallery.
I would also remove the car from your portfolio as it does match the quality of the rest of your work, while quantity can be a good thing, I feel it is better to maintain a higher overall quality of work since you already have quite a lot of good work in your portfolio and you do not want to be judged by your weakest pieces.
I am not sure if this is a mistake or not but the banner image is present as one of your images of the angel on the pedestal. If this is not a mistake I would personally consider removing it anyway as the image below shows the same thing but in better quality.
Good luck on your search and hopefully we will meet in a few weeks (seeing as I am now going to be a first year at the university you go to)
- use JPG so people wont have to wait for ages to see your work.
- your environments are mostly hidden in darkness.
- work with textures more. Especially on props.
Thanks for the advice, yea I will remove the car and sort out alignments and issues with scale.
Honestly the car was only there because people seem to like it, hell of a lot more than me. I would have binned it a long time ago.
The Angel in the banner images was because one is a sculpt rendered in keyshot, and the other a retopo'd model with full textures, I can see what you mean though the re occurrence is a bit random.
Congrats on getting on the course, I'm sure we might see each other occasionally at the uni. But the first year you will find there's not much time for anything but work. They have toned it down a bit, but it's really good intensive work.
@defragger
Thanks for the tips, will absolutely work all that into my stuff.
I second on the car. It just screams "generic." Sorry to say.
