Character I made based on Edin Durmisevics monster design. A project I was working on during lunch breaks to practice substance painter. Hope you like it.
Cool! My only piece of criticism is that it feels like most of the work is being carried by the diffuse - there isn't a lot of variety in the reflections and so it's quite hard to tell exactly what sort of "texture" this creature would have. Perhaps you could push the rough, bumpy and matte material of the stone on its back, and add some glossy "wet" highlights on the exposed skin/carapace of the underbelly and legs.
That's actually really good feedback @fhurtubise ! Thanks! I wish I had that feedback when I was working on it. This is almost 6 months old. Someone just happened to comment on it so it bumped the thread. I'll definitely do that on my current character I'm working on now! I started a progress thread on it as well. Thanks again!
Oh, dang, I'm still new here and haven't gotten into the habit of looking at the timestamps -_-
Have you had any luck finding good material references for your new projects? I find that's the hardest part of texturing something imaginary, because there might not be a perfect photo reference to base certain made-up materials on.
No worries! I appreciate the critique! Im still in the modeling portion right now on the other project. I tagged you in it just now. I have a decent idea on the materials but theres always room for more.
