Pick the quad that you want the other faces to follow and map it in the UV/Image window. Select connected faces to map from the active, their existing mapping will be overwritten.
And the other one says the same thing basically.
I've selected a face in "3D View" and in "UV/Image Editor". I did noticed that the "active face" is grey in this tutorial:
You have to be in Edit Mode > Face Mode to make a face active. Also the faces can't be triangulated, if they are you have to select the faces and press Alt J.
Whenever I want to make an element the active one (like when using the active element pivot mode), I deselect it and select it again. I think it's always the last one selected.
