http://www.mayoclinic.org/diseases-conditions/retinal-detachment/home/ovc-20197289Warning signs of retinal detachment include the sudden appearance of floaters and flashes and reduced vision. Contacting an eye specialist (ophthalmologist) right away can help save your vision.
Don't stare at the blue LED light!
That's just for the Cintiq's...no info so far with VR visors. Yeah, what happens if 3D-4K-120fps hit your eyeballs for long periods of time.

Even your own link says causes of retinal detachment are usually trauma and tissue thinning due to age and disease.
My mother had a retinal detachment a few years ago. It was kind of funny in a way; they used a gas bubble to lift it into place for surgery. She had a "this end up" arrow on her head and had to lay a certain way for a few days.
The retina hold photosensitive cells. You can damage the cells, or you can damage the retina which holds them. Those are 2 different things. Damaging the cells doesn't require physical stresses - just look into bright lights. It doesn't cause retina detachment but it will damage or kill the cells (i.e. don't look into the sun). Retina detachment happens due to physical stress put on your eye - e.g. due to the shape of your eyeball (myopia), trauma (contact sports, accidents), pressure (altitude - climbing K2, diving).
EDIT: my problem got nothing to do with computer work - don't get scared!
Not to mention the super unpleasant picture you included with it, which has nothing to do with retinal detachment.
All in all a good example of what's wrong with General Discussion lately. This post almost feels like spam.
Guess I'm here for the postcount.
The standard health & safety rules apply to anyone working with PC's: (disclaimer this is abridged, research it properly for your own health)
Your body should be at right angles, screens at eye level. Appropriate light levels and reduced/ no glare. Reduce screen brightness settings to a comfortable setting. Take short breaks often and try to get outside if possible for natural light.
The amount of long term injuries people are working to give themselves is staggering. Saw someone leaning a good foot to the side to use their mouse cause they didn't want to move some paperwork...
Lastly if you are not working on anything color sensitive then get Flux and save yourself on eye strain. It's on my list of first installs for any new machine I use, especially on development/coding side of work.
