Downloaded the programs last night and opened up Character Creator to have look around. I like how straight-forward it is and I was able to start preparing a basic body shape very quickly. I'll post some progress of that soon. I'm not sure yet if I'll use the base FBX meshes to create custom clothes or take this opportunity to try out Marvelous Designer (I've definitely been wanting to).
In the meantime I put together a few images of the direction I hope to take the character: an Irish mobster.
I spent all last week trying out Marvelous Designer. It's a really great program. After several attempts this is what I have so far:
I think the bottom of the pants/shoes are working well, now I'll be focusing on the shirt and belt area. I plan to put suspenders on him too. Haven't touched the face in ZBrush yet unfortunately though.
I did a bit more fiddling around in Marvelous Designer, figuring it was time I took what I have into ZBrush for a sculpting pass on the clothes. For a base I think it'll work well:
Second pass at the clothes. Need to work a bit more on the face (WIP shot to come), finish up the fedora, touch up the suspenders a bit and then finally start on the low poly towards the end of this week.
WIP shot of the head tonight. One more pass on it and I'll have to call it done in order to stay on track and move on to the next step. Also got the fedora high poly done tonight.
Yeah I plan on taking another pass to sharpen some features up.
Seeing as it's getting close to the deadline now I'm trying to push the low poly out and get this guy rigged in iClone ASAP. Just the shoes, collar, tie and suspenders to retopo, then an unwrap and some skinning tests hopefully.
Finally getting the clothes set up in Character Creator now. The skinning didn't transfer very well to my clothing so I'll end up re-skinning everything manually unfortunately, which is what I would have loved to spent the least amount of time on.
I'm also running into a problem where I'm unable to replace the mesh in 3DXchange and get the changes to show up in Character Creator, like in this tutorial:
Managed to get the updated mesh showing up by exporting the updated iAvatar from 3DXchange to iClone, and then into CC where I applied the rest of the custom clothing. Still have some material definition to work on and the obvious spots where the forearms penetrate the shirt mesh.

Likely won't see much of the top because of the pants, which I should be moving on to next along with the shirt.

So here's a bit of an update, first pass on clothes in ZBrush. Still have some folds and wrinkles to work out:
Marvelous Designer is definitely a great base to work from.
Took a break from the clothes to do some sculpting on the hands tonight:

Also baked some custom normals for the face, fiddled around with some skinning, and some other little things.
