About the game:

Team Woodsalt has a vacancy for a character artist who is skilled in cartoon/anime style characters for a 6-12 month contract. The game is called Sonder. It's a JRPG/adventure which combines Persona-style character interaction and relationships with Telltale-style dialogue and branching. The art style and perspective we're shooting for is similar to "I Am Setsuna". Below is a screen from "I am Setsuna" as an example of the perspective and art style required.

About the job:

Ideally, we would like to find someone who can model, texture, rig and animate. If you specialize in one or more areas but not all, we may consider splitting the job. No facial rigging, facial animation or lipsync is required. No normal maps, high-poly sculpts, specular maps, etc. are required. Characters will be around 5,000 triangles and have a single 2048x2048 diffuse map. Just a standard skeletal rig, with no morph targets. Animations will be shared between characters using Unity's mecanim system so experience there is helpful.

Most characters are human and of standard proportions. There are a couple of children who will be smaller and perhaps one or two animals. The majority of characters will be of a standard size and shape, as demonstrated in the screenshot above.

Concept art will be provided. Below, I've provided samples of our concept art.

This is a remote position.

About you:

You should be able to work fast without supervision. You should be motivated and a self-starter. You should have at least 2 years experience of remote freelancing. You should have excellent communication skills and be able to attend weekly and ad-hoc meetings via Skype. You should have a portfolio which contains a number of characters in a cartoon/anime style. You should be available to start immediately or very shortly.

Experience with Unity and Mecanim, in particular, is desirable but not essential.

Please note:

  • Applications which include attachments will be deleted without being read. Links to portfolio/examples ONLY please!
  • Applications from people who have not read the job description will be deleted without being read.
  • Applications from people who do not have samples/portfolio to show will be deleted without being considered.

How to apply:

Please email contact@nobullintentions.com with LINKS (no attachments please!) to portfolios or samples. If possible, please give examples of how many hours/days it took to create some of the works in your portfolio.

Please also include an estimated cost and time for a 5,000 poly character, rigged with walk, idle and run animations and a 2048x2048 diffuse map. If you prefer to be paid hourly, please include your hourly rate and an estimate of how many hours you would expect such a character to take.

Please include your availability, both in terms of how soon you can start and how many hours per week you could offer to the project. If you have an upcoming project which will affect your availability in the future, please mention that also.

Please indicate which disciplines you are experienced in. If you are applying only as a technical artist/animator or only as a modeller/texturer, please say so.
