trying to scrape together free resources is one of the worst mindsets to have as a beginner and directly responsible for people learning at a super slow rate, or becoming frustrated. With the new trend of top tier industry artists putting out amazingly high quality art tutorials for what is equal to pennies on the dollar for what it would take for them to teach you on a 1 to 1 basis, I still can't believe people are afraid to lay down some cash to rapidly advance their skill set and learn from the best. There are some awesome tutorials you can find in the gumroad thread here. And a lot of them for 5-15 bucks.

people need to realize the value of mentors time, and that paying 60 dollars for a couple hours or more of content from industry leaders is one hell of a steal of a deal. In general I find 75% of most free content to be lacking or re-hashed/missing info/outdated. If you want to learn as fast as possible, learn from industry leaders, and don't be afraid to invest in yourself to get there, you will most likely 10x your results much faster.
Gumroad and getting info directly from people who are working in studios on a daily basis is massively disrupting the archaic art school industry. Why pay 20-40k to be taught be instructors who are most likely no longer in the industry or relevant when if you spent 400-500 bucks (and thats a budget on the high end) you could have insanely more high quality learning materials.

You need to give more details about your self and your skills.  So we know where you stand right now.

Any how, go Google Joan of Arc Maya/Max tutorial. It's free online and is good.

You know what's holding me back on not purchasing those tuts yet?  I'm not sure what exactly they're offering in terms of detailed instruction, and its a bit of paralysis of choice, with so many to choose from.

i wish to learn more about low poly character for 3dsmax

Make sure that you have instant keyboard shortcuts for the core operations (merge verts to center, extrude edge, fill gap, insert loop, flatten face) and ... that's all there is to it really.

From there study the mesh structure of models taken from games that are well optimized and apply what you learn to your own stuff.

Also, don't touch Zbrush for a few months to force yourself to craft models with clean polygon structure first and foremost.
