This post will be related to the idea of reboot/remake the original Dino Crisis for Playstation and bring it back with new design and art using Unreal Engine 4.
I'm the guy who has faithfully recreated from scratch a Resident Evil engine (look for Squeeze Bomb, it's easy to find) for the Biohazard 1.5 completion project. Poke me if you need any suggestions on how to achieve a good degree of fidelty for original feeling & mechanics.
For starters just stay away from modern choices like OTS camera and you should be fine. Classic character-pivoted camera is more than likely the biggest initial step you need to make.
We will experiment with the camera in third person view, or fps if it makes you feel the same as the original. The Camera placement process can however become tedious and repetitive/ we have no assurance whether someone will like it or not. As for OTS, we've seen it enough and fed up with it.
I've yet to mention the camera and few other things, which I'll do in the Final Design Document. For spoilers, I'm planning to destroy the traditions and go with multiple cameras to play with. Both FPS and TPS.
Meter Unit architectural layout - Made corrections since the map doesn't match to actual game at all
Don't bother too much with metric size and map overview: CAPCOM had a bad habit at using arbitrary and inconsistent measurements. They hacked the values a lot in RE2-3 to make size match between maps and the actual rooms. Just take basic shapes and keep global coordinates consistent across rooms.
I've got most of the top level floors nearly completed in Half-Life 1 that I worked on back in 2013, but never finished, would you be interested in the files?
Never, updating the content is biggest problem and rewarding. Designing from ground is painful but that is a rewarding challenge for Game Design practice. Nothing pre-rendered, all REAL-TIME in Unreal Engine.
I originally designed the ground level floors in Half-Life 1 format, you should be able to convert it to any format using the source files.
I'll get them together and post them, I'll also do a run through video that shows the layout as soon as I get some free time. Hopefully that helps. Here is a quick render from what I have:
Ok, here is the video, it also contains the link for the source files (MAP, BSP, OBJ, Sound). Note the map is not complete. I hope you find this useful. The BSP files can be played directly in Half-Life.
I'm interested in this project as I want to make a Dino Crisis character for my portfolio. What's your opinion on the Resident Evil 1 remake? Have you played it? Have you played the original?
I did play it like 10 times. I am relaxing a bit till December, gathering my thoughts on it. Will Respond as soon as I feel comfortable. It burnt me last time
I worked my ass off on level design, later was left 4 dead like situation by that Jerkbag. I played the original, with all 3 endings. I do have some technical art issues to take care of, like texture memory and texture sizes etc. I'll be back in action within a week and report asap.
Wow great work we should do this in ark dev. kit and port it over ? i know it seems like a copyright copy and paste but it makes sense in the long run Idk id just like to see the survival aspect in a Horror simulation ? and it doesn't seem like copy and paste but Devs you know them ?? you put alot of hard work into this
you could do wall buying to Medkits/ammo anything the and a later to date DC2 Modkit remake id rather see
this kinda work rather then Capcom just making a whole new game not gonna lie i would like though
but dino crisis in ark survival evolved would just make way more feasible sense that being ark 2 coming out and the endless possibilities you could do in 1

Thanks in advance
