I'm doing a modeling practice recreating this concept by John "Pelecymus" on deviantart

Modeling is almost done. After some minor tweaks and after reaching an understanding of the ignition mechanism I'll start with shading and texturing. But first i wanna show you for advices.

This is my freetime practice, so I modeled some details that normally i would leave to texture maps, and the whole piece, as you can see, is prepared to be smoothed (catmull-clark 2 subdivisions) at render time.
I worked from imagination about the interlocking of parts. I don't want to leave compenetrating geometries.
Some decorated parts absolutely need normal or displacement maps to be convincing, like the gun dogs. I will bring them in Zbrush and maybe I will export again from there the first subdivision level for presentation.
Critiques and comments are welcomed.

Now I have to sculpt in the details of decorated parts in Zbrush. And maybe I will have to make some change if I realize that with final shading/texturing something doesnt work.
Some texturing in Quixel. Just a starting point, I'm getting used to the software.
