Looks great for a first render! is this your first render ever in any 3d package? That's great stuff! I'd say as far as critique/improvement, the neck looks a bit stretched out, as do the folds on his chin/mouth area. Nice detail overall and design however.
For your first render it is really cool There are a few things to do, but nice start. I would play a bit more with the background ( add a gradient or a structure ). You can also render out some different lights, so you can play in the composition in photoshop. If you google for BPR rendering you will find a lot good stuff from other artists. A good example is Rafael Grassetti. I´m glad to see more progress
