Hello there. I'm currently blocking a posed character trying to make her anatomy as accurate as possible. Since I couldn't find a reference with the exact pose I'm going for, I kinda have to wing it. So I'm sure there must be quite a lot mistakes you guys can spot especially the arms, which were really a nightmare for me to sculpt. Feel free to comment and critique. I'm waiting and listening right here.
I wouldn't worry about the anatomy just yet, focus on the gesture of the pose.
I'd make sure your "line of actions" are dynamic and follow curves. Right now, your side view reveals the pose to be very stiff.
Get her more gesturally posed overall, and you'll have less to fix and make up for later on.
What you could do is to attempt to take that pose yourself, then you'll feel how far back that shoulder can go etc. The proportions are also off, her head is too tiny.
Legs look very stiff and awkward at the moment, other then that its a solid base! but yeah, you should really try to nail the pose before diving into detail.
New progress today. Did a few more adjustments regarding to the pose and proportion. Let me know if you guys can still spot anything obviously off. will get into shaping the silhouette and muscle forms after I make sure the overall pose looks good.
I'm not quite sure what action your character is about to do. Lunging? Running? Jumping? The weight is off at the hip. The current pose reminds me of how someone (sorry for the graphic description) would run if they were about to shart their pants and trying to hold it in. The duck waddle run. The right hip should be lower than the left and the left leg should be be closer in to the body almost certainly as that next landing of the foot would throw the character off balance?
You posed the legs and arms but not the hips or Shoulders in the other dimensions also. No wonder it looks stiff. Mimic the poses with your own body, note where your bones and joints are inside of you. It looks funny but it helps to think about.
just a quick addition to what @cyborgguineapig is already saying, and which I agree with to a 100%.
you need to exaggerate your flow/shapes a lot more. there are to many either straight lines, or things going of in different directions. you need to make one clear line of action. made a little PO:
Thank you guys so much for the advice. Those editing you guys show there really give me a clear idea where to fix next. Do appreciate doing that. Definitely pushing the poses to a more extreme flow. Looks like I gotta slowly take my time now correcting the pose first before I ever go into detailing.
