I'll be making Max Caulfield from Life is Strange with one of her alternate jackets from the concepts mixed with her standard t-shirt and jeans , with some adjustements.
I don't want to make it in the style of Life is Strange , so more realistic in terms of textures.
I'm starting to develop a bad track record of not finishing projects I start , and if I put myself out there ( by making threads for people to see ) instead of hiding then I'll maybe finish them more.
We'll see.

finishing project is hard but I hope you'll finish this one!
@Blade113 - Thanks man
@Tectonic - Glad to hear!
Here's an update.
Cloth is still a heavy construction site and big learning curve for me, so is hair.
At a glance, Max's hoodie could be a tad tighter. The arm sleeves end at about halfway through her forearm. The vertical length of the jacket can be shortened to about approximately a bit after where her T-shirt ends. The one you have the at the moment looks a little large to fit her physique. I reckon these changes would help convey her petite features better.
Hope you can follow through and finish her!
Yeah I was going for a mixture of her original outfit with a hoodie from the Max concept art sheet ( The Hoodie was unused) But I'm honestly just gonna go and play it safe , going with her original outfit. Made some changes overall
I found this good resolution concept sheet of Edouard Caplain's Max clothing designs after some googling (hard to find for some reason). I'll link it here as reference and also for others to see and crit better.

Also thanks to Marie for giving me a paintover , here's an updated version.
The pants are still massively a work in progress , for the jacket I took some photos of me wearing a similar jacket ( Sports Jacket )
To be fair I'm not really feeling any of her other costumes except the ones that are in the game which really is just the last concept on the right , the sweatshirt ones don't really feel like Max.
Hurrr. Should've done that before.
Captain hindsight.
Took some ref pictures of my pants , in the end Max won't look 1x1 like in the concept , which I'm personally fine with , wasn't going for that anyway.
I think I'll start tightening up everything else on her , details and push for low poly in the next few days. If everything goes according to plan ( Which it won't, of course )
Started texturing in Substance , still new to it but getting the hang of it a bit.
Edit: Decided she's getting stylized hair.
Quite difficult.
Here's an update , changed the lightning/face/hair
Baked down the maps for the hair , gonna start texturing it now as well as fix her pose and push it.
I just...can't make myself do it at this point.
: (
Gonna make one or two more poses and then it'll be done, hopefully...inchallah...maybe.
Who am I kidding.
I understand the idea behing it but I would find something a little bit more subtle .
I did some test with the colors and also made some changes in photoshoo to her face (its subtle tho!!)
I just made the eyes and mouth slighty bigger, made her face a big thinner.
Biggest change was made to the neck, at the moment it's way too long IMO.
I don't think a bedroom needs to be done to do a cool final render for this character, I like the little pile of pictures you got atm.
I do think playing with a nike bokeh background (reminding of photography!) could make it look pretty cool.
Of course this was just a a 5min fun in photoshop but done correctly I believe it would look kinda cool!
cheers
We were talking in the slack chat and I offered to do some tweaks to the lighting and presentation, so I figured I would post a short breakdown of that.
First step was to find some sort of reference, I looked at screenshots of the game but what really clicked with me was a concept by Kuvshinov-Ilya: http://kuvshinov-ilya.deviantart.com/art/Max-Caulfield-514094994 - I used this as an overall guide for lighting, post and overall presentation style. As with all parts of art, it’s great to have some sort of reference.
The first thing I did was break down the lighting, trying to see where the light was coming from by paying attention to the shadows in the reference.
Then I added a background image, I modeled a half-cylinder and loaded the concept of Max’s room by Eduard Caplain - https://www.artstation.com/artwork/YJKe6.
The background object looks like this in TB^. I set up the material so it was unlit, and spec/Fresnel set to 0 so it doesn’t get any reflections. I also loaded the same texture in the emissive slot so I could control the brightness of the background in relation to the lighting. For final renders, I would not recommend dropping in someone else’s work like I’m doing here (very naughty for legal/ethical reasons), but I just want to show how easy this is. If you’re going to blur the background out with DOF, you could quickly paint something abstract, or load in a random photo you've taken.
After I had the BG in, I set up depth of field, focused on her eyes (middle mouse click to focus!) and then did some basic post effects. For post, I actually did very little, as most of the color is coming from the lighting. I added a subtle vingette, and tweaked the color curves to bump up the brightness and contrast a touch, and played with the red and blue channels a bit.
Here's a full breakdown:Oh yeah, I also tweaked the shaders a bit but nothing major. Set both reflection models on the hair to anisotropic, played with skin shader settings a bit (this is in TB3 so the skin shader is a little different).
A couple more tweaks, killed the hair light (I was trying to copy something from the ref and it didn't really work), and toned the spec down on the hair, should look a bit more natural/less plasticy now. Thx @Tits for feedback.
Thanks for all the help and support!
You rock!
I feel like it might have been quite the learning experience, up onto the next one now!
don't forget to apply what you've learned on this unto the next one.
Can't wait to see what's up next!
I was also just about to mention those eyebrows but @Joopson beat me to it
Yeah , fixed it. Had the old textures where I shaved the eyebrows off and must've forgotten.
Agree totally on the hair , I'll fix that in due time but for now I want to start something new.
