Hey everyone! Working on a female face this time. Wondering if I could get some critiques on what I could improve. The view i'm having the most issues with is the front on view. I think she looks manly or just off in general from that view but the quarter and side view i think she looks quite feminine, which really confuses me haha. Let me know! Thanks! Draw overs would be great if possible.
Thanks! I actually didn't really work from a reference as much as a drawing that was very generic. Just used it for proportions sake. This feedback helps a lot though. Still learning a lot about actual terminology for anatomy haha. I'm finding that I have problems making females look female and males look realistic. They all just sort of look off in one way or another.
I'll go back through and update the things you mentioned and repost tonight! Thanks!
This is at most 15 min of work, give it another 15 min and it'll look twice as good, use dynamesh at the start then move onto subdivisions when you've got things blocked out.
I would definitely stop using illustrations as reference. Use IRL photos and anatomically accurate depictions. Dustin seems pretty on point with all of his crits. Your spacing isn't bad but you are clearly guessing about form as you are missing major structural key points.
Hey Leinadien! Unfortunately this ended up being about 2 hours of work for me lol. I obsess and tweak and nitpick, so yeah it probably could be 15 minutes once I get things down but thats where I'm at right now.
Thanks @slosh . Not sure why i haven't thought about doing this yet. I guess its harder to find good turnaround and angled headshots of real people to be able to do this with.
Also the line that goes away from the nose (i really don't know what it's called off my head), goes rather randomly down, but it should be going down to the corner of the mouth.

Google terms that will help:

Also, deviant art has a surprising amount of decent orthographic references. Sometimes are filed under erotic art stuff, admittedly.

Or as an alternative for the front:
