Brainchild Entertainment, a small startup in Toronto, Canada, is seeking a 3D artist for a unique freelance opportunity.
Description:
We require the excellent skills of a 3D artist to translate a 2D fantasy map into a 3D ‘relief’- style one with ‘hand painted’ textures.
Many of you had probably seen the classic 2D fantasy maps with the whole parchment paper texture thing. You get to look at the cartography work done to show the different areas of the map and the topography of the different places; something like this:

Well, imagine if we are to translate this same fantasy map into a 3D one, where we get to see those details but in a much more dynamic and engaging way: You get to look at the different valleys, the varying heights of the mountains (with snow caps), the green forests, rivers, ocean…etc. Basically, a stylized 3D ‘relief' map kind of look. Something like this (not the globe image so please scroll down):

Another added twist is we want to translate the major landmarks from the 2D map (Utgarde Keep for e.g.) into the 3D one, so they kind of become prominent figures ‘standing’ on top of the map to mark them as being landmarks.
References:
You will be supplied with detailed 2D maps of the continent and photo reference of every area of every section of it, so you get to see what each area looks like if you are to go visit it in the game.
When you apply:
Along with your message, please attach a link to your portfolio. Any similar work (we know it is rare) to what we require is a major plus!
All selected applicants will have to go through an interview where we get to discuss the opportunity in details, you can ask any kind of questions you want, and from there we will proceed to the next step.
Payment:
Once rewarded with the opportunity, we will provide you with a 50% downpayment prior to your start on the project, and the remaining 50% once all work is completed.
Good luck!
