Hello,
Since I'm a big fan of Unity, I decided to take part in this contest which will allow me to grow as an artist. This is a great opportunity for me to improve both my technical and artistic skills.
My entry wants to reflect a serene atmosphere inspired by the Japanese culture (blossomed cherry trees and greenery). On top of that I want to add an imperial touch through flags, red carpets and torch lights. The main colors I want to use are orange and blue, as these two contrasting colors work very well together.
STAGE 1 - Finding a baseI've been trying to find a point of interest and some good base materials. I also modified color correction and water's fresnel factor to give a more natural look.
This is what I've done so far. I hope you like it

The blue lights totally give off a SciFi-ish vibe to the whole seen.
Kinda reminds me of Stargate.
I've added all the details mentioned above + a lot more. So far I've added:
- animated flags using vertex texture fetching (custom standard shader). I basically made a loopable cloth simulation in 3ds max and then I made a maxscript that bakes the vertex position in object space relative to the first frame (similar to animated particles).
This is the baked texture at a much lower res:
- red carpets
- cherry trees
- ivy
- torch lights
- better looking skybox
- animated caustics that use world space position as uv mapping (custom shader)
- flying and floating petals using a pre-rendered loopable animation
Here are some screens:
The final stage is fine tunning + finding some good camera angles. I'll also make a video so you can make a better idea of the hole thing
Very nice, love the vines and the water. ╭( ・ㅂ・)و ̑̑
In the first and second scene shots, something feels odd about the trees, but may be just the camera FoV/angle or more likely I'm just crazy.
Here's another one to see caustics better
I probably couldn't record anything like that with my current system, If I tried it would probably unplug itself jump out the window then shoot itself...
Anyway congrats on your results!
As for the YouTube compression; ya its shows a pretty crappy video when you view it right after you first upload. From my experience the video looks better after about 20ish min after uploading. Right now your video looks great at 720p and 1080p.
@Port-SevenWhat Guardian animation?
