Hi Guys,
Been itching to do some stylized characters. I started on this a couple of weeks ago and have been working on it on and off. Mostly just blockout stuff for now.
I am basing it off of Ben Hale's (Makkon) character
Ugi.
Feedback is welcome let me know your crits.

I didn't do the best job with my concept for the face, but I have some more art of her if you like so you don't need to have so much guesswork.
To be fair, she's a character I'm still actively figuring out so my anatomy and proportions of her is not consistent, sorry about that. Some drawings I tried giving her thicker legs and wider hips, others I slimmed her down a lot. All of them she has a pretty narrow torso and stomach though. Use your best judgement
Did a bunch of tweaks to the proportions and fixed up the face a bit. Also cleaned up the jacket.
Still a bunch to do.
In general I still think her arms and legs are a tad thick. Sam Bragg recently did a drawing of the character, and while her face here is off model, her body proportions could be some great inspiration. http://sam-bragg.tumblr.com/post/146307386362/my-first-commission-ugi-created-by-ben-hale
Here's my paintover of the face, let me know if you have more questions.
Few things I fogot notes about. I made the mouth less wide horizontally, and made them a bit thicker vertically.
I also widened the sides of the cranium a tad.
[edit] I wrote "straighten tear ducts" but I actually meant to say line them up with the bottom of the eye, that tiny curve is still really nice to have.
Edit: I forgot I wanted to include the base anatomy sculpt with this. I never posted it in here so.
Feedback welcome.
A few artistic ideas, you could make the legs longer to see how that looks, and I while my concepts are particularly vague regarding footwear, I always imagined her wearing sci-fi versions of high tops.
If Im gonna be nitpicky I think the face could use some more polish, some sharper creases and making some planes a bit more defined, It feels just a tad to soft. but other then that its looking really great, subbed.
@lotet - Thanks! Working on some polish on the face now.
Small update just some clean up on the face sculpting. Still some more to do on the face. Feedback welcome!
Paintover
Notes
- I think you can improve the curve of the "hair", following it through to the top a bit more.
- the lower lip could be a bit smoother, but that is mostly personal opinion =P
- the ears could use some work, for example ad a concave shape and pushing that crease up. I know this is not how @Makkon did it but honestly I think it looks better when converted to 3D.
- I would also try to dig into the corner of the ear a bit, making sure it has a proper curve where it attaches to the head.
- I feel the scar you have at the moment is a bit to realistic for the style, I would flatten it up and maybe just have it as a shape in a darker skin color.
overall its looking really good, keep it up!
Took the day to retopo the body/ head and add a mouth box. Going to try out blend shapes on this one and sculpt a bunch of expressions.
Clean up the face some more and changed the shoes to hightops. Thought it would be cool to have the bottom of the shoe glow so I am trying that out. Let me know if you have any feedback.
I dont know if you have the energy for it, but one final thing you could do for the face is model out the eyes. have the eyeballs as a separate mesh, if you havnt already.
Going to start on the low poly this weekend. Didn't get a chance to work on this over the past weekend.
Hope this is helpful
Ok so took another pass on the face based on Makkon's feedback.
Debating on whether or not I want to sculpt the eyelids shut and do a bunch of sculpted face poses or just move on to the low poly.
are you using a mask/colored spec for the Iris? If not, it can helps the eyes shine a bit, works great for stylized stuff. also do you have a normal map for the eye?

@Makkon - Thanks man. I will dig through there
So I did a lot of polish to the eyes. Started painting up the diffuse a bit on the clothes. No material work yet really. Just getting the diffuse where I like it. (Also rendered straight from marmoset this time. Didn't realize how much worse the screengrabs looked.)
love the eyes
Blocking in some material definition on the clothes. Still a lot to do. Let me know what you think
Still a bunch of stuff to do. Have to fix up the eyelashes, and eyes in general. Need to make teeth and a tongue. Planning on making some sort of utility belt/ holster and a blaster as well.
As always let me know if you have any feedback.
saw the last image and felt something was of, but could not really put my finger on it.
but this last pic is looking great!
how much wear n tear are you planning on adding, or are you gonna try keeping it clean?
gloss map really added a lot, keep it up!
@RitualSynergY - Thanks!
Make a bunch of changes to the roughness. Added some wear over the whole model. Trying out emissive on the boots. Can't decide whether it is distracting or not.
*Edit* - Oh yeah testing things out in Toolbag 3 as well. So far I am loving it.
Let me know what you think:
small crit on the jacket, some wear/scratches on the back looks very painted with a brush instead of "real".
also, cant believe I dint notice this earlier, but It would be nice with some slight cleavage on her chest.
new render looks really good
