I'm not as well versed in the materials and rendering process of ZBrush. I downloaded a Matcap limestone material to finish up a project, but it is stretching across the mesh (see image) Why is this happening, and is there a way to fix it?
It is expected behavior. Matcaps all have lighting information baked in that is then mapped onto the model based on the camera. If surface detail is part of the Matcap, it will be projected onto the model as well and stretched accordingly. There is no way for the projection to work succesfully for both, lighting information and stretch/distortion-free patterns/surface detail (except for spheres obviously). You can always modify the Matcap texture though to not incorporate such details and then bring it back into ZBrush or simply use another Matcap. I can imagine that you will be able to create similar surface information using something like NoiseMaker (under the "Surface" tab) rather quickly without having to worry about stretching, etc.
