Correct topology for complex shape (Newbie)

Hi guys, 

So I've been browsing these forums for some time now trying to soak up as much as I can and the community seems to be very helpful

Anyhow, I've been trying to achieve this shape in geometry for some time and I can just not seem to get something I'm happy with could anyone advise how i should go about this shape? Thanks in advance 

I'm trying to achieve the hand grips shown here 

This is what i have but I'm not happy with

Id do it like this, you get good topology for the handle if you smooth it and it is all quads, so ur not going to get a n-gon like in yours, otherwise, if its just for a game, youd want it to be a simple cylinder and have the detail in the normal, ao and diffuse maps

@TRAK Cheers dude I assumed normal mapping would be the best route i was just curious if there was a convoluted edge flow I didn't know about Thanks anyway
