Heya Polycounters,

I'm working on a fresh little top-down game and could use some critique on the proportions of the main character before I move on:

The comic style is intentional (I like long arms and big feet). In the end he will be rendered at 32x32 px in-game so he needs to be exaggerated. But I might also want to use him in a inventory-menu screen and as reference for further characters. So I need him to look cool from top-down mostly but also not too strange in a front view.

Please let me know if you think this could work or if you think that something is totally off... THANKS!

Love low poly stuff like this. Since you're exaggerating the shapes, why not do it even more? Use variation in thickness to really show his exaggerated anatomy. Calfs and lower arms could be thicker, and elbow and neck could be thinner.

Since you're not going for realism anyway, go crazy mate.

I agree with whats stated above, push the shapes.

I am not sure if you're are into the practice of just looking at the silhouette, but if not I would strongly recommend doing so, you can really see what works and doesn't work about your model

Thanks Leotrard and Jose, you're right, I've done that now and added gauntlets and boots. I messed up the knees though (only noticed it when I started animating the guy). And yes I do check with no shading  ... sometimes =)

    Here is the current status:
Since it is the main character, I guess I might give him a final polish at the end of the production, but for now I'm pretty happy with the result.

This is kind of how he looks in-game (x200%):

I'll be back for some critique on the females soonish....
