Help achieving specific look on 3D leaves

I am building a scene in Unity 3D and am trying to match several elements in the scene to some reference art. Here is a picture of the reference art.

I'm trying to match the stylized leaves in the trees in this image. Here is what my environment current looks like.

Of course in my scene I'm intentionally making the leaves cherry blossoms so they are pink instead but I would like it to otherwise match as perfectly as possible. Maybe the difference in look is obvious, but I'll point out what I think I see as the major differences just in case.

  • The leaves in the scene don't have the same appearance around the edges
  • The positioning seems somehow off on the leaves but no matter how I try to change the positioning I don't seem to get the same effect.
  • There appears to be a contouring effect on the leaves in the reference that I can't seem to match in my scene.
Maybe listing these items is counter productive because if I could easily articulate the problem I may be able to fix it on my own. I'm not really sure if any of the things on this list are real issues or if there is something else that I haven't been able to identify.

Any advice as to what I can try to get the look of the second to look more like the reference?

Thanks!
