Hey!
Even though I had an account here for some time it's finally my first time posting.
For those not knowing me, I'm doing stuff for the CS:GO Workshop since 2013 and I already have finishes ingame (Redline).
Going through the other submissions and seeing alot of really flashy finishes, I decided to go in a different direction and seeking inspirations somewhere else.
So I decided to do a heavily dune(film) inspired, simplistic artwork for my gun.
IMO AWP was the perfect fit for what I had in mind. The long but narrow form of the AWP is perfect for landscapes and it being selected for the restricted category, the rather subtle colors I had in mind for the main body were fitting.
I think adding blue accents to the complimentary yellow/orange/brown brings in a bit of diversity and keeps it from being too monotonous (and obviously fits the dune style
).
I already started but I still want to show you the process so far:
I started with just a basic gradient and the ground. I wanted to make the design fading into space as the gradient goes up:
Added some background mountains and stars on the scope:
;
Here I added a strong glow in the background and a weak glow in front of the mountains. I played around with blue elements.
Also, I added a slight grain behind the mountains, which fades out as it goes up.
I separated most of the barrel with a slightly darker, solid color and
added a bit of a sandsnake hint (didn't want to make it too obvious):
Close up so far:
;
Feedback is much appreciated!
I will keep updating as I progress.

The overall atmosphere works better now in my opinion.
Also, I had to find a solution for the bolts/screws - since they all have to look the same I decided to make them glow and therefore fit in the atmosphere more. They are probably less noticeable in first person anyways.
Also if anyone has a better name of the skin, let me know!
Next up: baking session, adding details and refining the UV. Feedback as always very welcome!
@AKTrashheap My initial thought behind that was that I wanted to keep it a bit monotone to make it fit the "restricted" rarity but I gotta say... your feedback is spot on. Thank you!! So I decided to also change the mood a bit and not only give it a blue tint, but also make the background darker and I am really impressed by how much it improved the skin (in my opinion).
If thats what you meant
Good luck to you too!
BUT... I got a lot of feedback recently from people concerned about it not totally fitting in the in the restricted category but rather a bit higher.
So that got me thinking... I could not really recolor it because it has a set scene and I didn't really want to change the artwork itself so I decided to make everything black and white except the highlights of the gun to still see what it is about.
I tried that out and I personally think it is a good alternative to the original skin (as a second entry ofc).
That's how it looks at the moment. It's not a completely finished version as of yet since I still want to play a bit with the contrasts.
I would love to hear from you guys what you think about that as a second entry to maybe give a slightly lower grade alternative.

I only changed it slightly from the last update: saturation on the blue parts is higher and contrast is optimized.
Thanks again for all the feedback!
