I've decided to participate doing another AK47 rendition. I chose to do an alien / gigerish themed design. I actually went into blender and started freestyling some shapes i thought would fit the theme and put them on the original AK 3D Model. Considering how you can't change the shape of the original Model i tried to compliment the form of the AK as much as i could but at the same time i tried to make it look unique. Mostly inspired by the set and character design of HR Giger but also influenced by the spacesuits of the Jean Giraud.
I'm going to be using a lot of details out of the whole giger xenomorph theme like those ridged cylinders and even some of the more organic forms. I'll be trying to incorporate several other design elements out of the film too (spacesuit details etc.) though as i did with a lot of my former workshop theme skins.
So here's a start of the model i am going to bake from. Lots of detail yet to be added there.

Modeling on model? how.... mesh topology very bad for subdivided
So i did a basic material blockout in substance painter 2. Don't let this look fool you though, it's gonna look a "whole lot" different when i combine the output maps (albedo, ambient occlusion, curvature, roughness etc.) with different blending modes in Photoshop. All in all i'll give the whole thing a lot of manual photoshop love Looking forward to post more soon. This is just the base i'll be working with.
My head almost exploded trying to find a color scheme that worked for me as i kept trying too hard to implement flashy colors because the AK is supposed to be covert. After all it just didn't fit the theme so I'll concentrate on the whole "complimenting the weapons form" part. I am going to incorporate emissive (fake that is) light elements to compliment several details on the weapon and give off more of that sci fi look. Moreover i am going to implement typographic elements to pay homage to the whole alien background story. It won't be something that's linked directly to the Alien story as i don't want any rights infringement problems.
Here's an example which will be featured somewhere on the weapon in a later wip:
In the end i went with the off white furniture to implement the spacesuit in the design. The slime on top of the foregrip will actually be slightly transparent. I'll do two bakes and let the metal beneath it shine through in a blurred manner. This is what the baked version looks like without any manual editing.
Still missing a whole lot of details but it's getting there
You are GOD blender sculpting and light baking !!!!!
Nice, but not sure on that green slime at the front.
The extrusions are all modeled on top of the original AK and baked into the texture. I'll be posting a littlle more Progress later today
Mainly added details to the frontsights/barrel, decals on the receiver and stuff on the other side of the gun. I am planning to give the buttstock some special treatment, plus make the handgrip a little cooler hopefully.
PS: Am I the only one who likes it better with the slime on it? haha
@Primrose~ Thanks! You're kind of right about the name. As i based the whole theme on the first Alien movie i ended up reading lots of trivia about that film. Apparently it was supposed to be called Starbeast.. i suppose it was altered for a reason I am open for any proposals though. I'll try to find one myself in the meantime.
- crossbreed (apparently there's some gun related company called like that. don't know if that's a problem)
- syncrisis
... hmmm not sureOr "spacevault", "spaceblast", "blastsmith", "spacestrider", "caustic blast".
I am about as good with names as with skns...
I like this ak a lot though.
