YOUR_HAMSTER

This competition seemed like a really interesting challenge, and I hoped it would finally force me to release one of my projects!

This skin was inspired by the classical 80's computer landscapes, used in various commercials ranging from home pc's to the powerglove. I set out to make a random skin that wouldn't just be a completely random pattern and i think i managed to.

This is how i got there.

There was quite a few different landscapes that i toyed with. Especially due to the texture layout of the mp9 not wanting what i did to be possible with 100% accuracy. This was the latest landscape that was made, but it ended up not looking that nice on the weapon.

After the landscape was made i added it to the gun. This was the first version of the skin
You might already notice the seam on the middle of the body. This was a problem that gave me quite the headache all throughout the process.

Next I had some trouble with the handle. I didn't feel that the "mesh" complimented it very well. I started with a solid color:
The gun still didn't feel right. Something was off. I tried with a simple texture on the solid color, it helped but still wasn't good enough.

I made a new landscape, a new texture for the rest of the gun. The 80's in a blender. The design went in too many directions and was not really pleasant to look at.

A more discreet landscape was rendered, the colours toned down and a more sleek texture was added to the handles.

Here i really thought i was on the right track. I added some background the the body of the gun and tried a more unified color scheme.

I decided to substitute my lack of 2d skills with some help from blender. I rendered out a pattern that i thought would fit nicely for the handle.
I still didn't have quite the 80's feel that I wanted but it was close. What turned out to be missing was a pink overlay and some glitch effect to fix the still visible seams.
