Hi all, I've decided to give this a try.

So I've started off by just experimenting with possible ideas.

Firstly I toyed with going for the Neon Tron esque look, but wasn't keen on what I was coming up with.

So I then I came across this image and took some inspiration from it:

I quite like the comic style of it. Also the real minor aspect I really like is the striped paper pattern in the background.

From that I've come up with this.

What I've decided is to go with a stencil approach. I quite like the minimal aesthetic of it.

Now the only problem I can see it that it might not quite be 70s 80s sci fi, perhaps more 50s 60s. So I am thinking of taking this idea further, but tying it in better to that 70s 80s theme. 

Going to play around with further ideas. Let me know what you think.

New update:

Decided to change the rockets to something more in theme. I took quite a bit of inspiration from some of the NASA rockets. I also took some inspiration from some 70s sci-fi designs. Added the text, also added a slight texture to the stencils. Still experimenting, however I think I am going to stick with something along this aesthetic.

 Update, spent toady replacing the placeholder smoke. 

Made it in Blender by simulating a rocket exhaust. Rendered out a side view of the simulation and then used that as a stencil.

Also from last time forgot to mention the rocket was also done in a similar manner. I modelled a rough rocket and applied black and white shadeless materials to each face, and again rendered out a stencil.
